Below are a few tips to keep in mind to get your vehicle ready for Fall.
By following these simple steps you can save yourself time and headaches later on by making sure your vehicle is road ready this fall. Whether this is something you decide to do yourself or bring by our team of professionals, we recommend these steps to ensure your vehicle is ready for the season change.
Defrosters, Heater, and Wiper Blades – check that your HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) system is working properly. Heating and cooling performance is critical for safety reasons such as windshield defrosting, and also important for comfort. Fall is a great time to check your cabin air filters too! Make sure to replace any wiper blades that are torn, cracked, or don’t properly clean your windshield. A general recommendation is to replace your wiper blades every 6 months to make sure they are always in proper working condition. Nothing is worse than driving down the road and going to use your wipers and realizing they are not helping clean your windshield. This interferes with your safety, and everybody else’s safety on the road.
Battery – make sure that your battery connections are tight, clean, and corrosion free. Cold weather is just as hard on batteries as warm weather, so it is very important to remember to check the battery and charging system regularly during season changes. Batteries will not always give warning signs before they bite the dust, so it is advisable to get your battery inspected or as a general rule of thumb, to replace your batteries if they are more than three years old.
Brakes –check your break system including the brake linings, rotors, and drums. Brakes are extremely important to overall vehicle safety and particularly important when driving on icy or snow covered roads. Fall usually comes early in Northern Alberta, so it is very important to ensure the proper working condition of your brakes.
Tires – make sure to check your tire pressure and tread depth. Uneven wear on your tires will indicate it is time for a wheel alignment or tire rotation. Tires should be check for bulges and bald spots. Since snow and ice are a factor in our climate – you should consider switching your all season tires for winter tires. Not only do they perform better in this climate, but they are also a huge safety factor for traction and handling on icy roads. Our parts department has great deals on tires, and we are one of the biggest suppliers of winter tires in the region!
